Artic ice melting, sea levels rising, floodings...
This is the result of global warming, otherwise known as climate change. Global warming is when humans drive cars, which emits Co2, a greenhouse gas that warms up the earth. We must change climate change. We must speak up. We must do it now, before it's too late and the world gets too hot.
The Simplest Way
There are many ways to stop climate change. However, some ways help more than others. The simplest thing to do is to alert people about global warming. The more people know about global warming, the more they are determined to stop it. Giving people information about global warming can get them to act.
“If people were silent, then the world wouldn't change” -Malala Yousafzai
This is probably my favorite quote of all time. You might already know that Malala Yousafzai advocated for education. However, her quote applies to all world problems: poverty, climate change, war... This is why I like the quote so much.
So, you could just notify people about climate change. However, YOU can make big change. If everyone was waiting for someone to do something about climate change, nothing would be done. However, if people spoke up... we could change climate change.
Planting trees is a good way to change climate change. Trees turn Co2 into sugar, and so planting them could reduce the amount of Co2 into the air.
Another alternative is donating, where you can donate to stop global warming. The money goes into planting trees. However, it would take a lot of money to make a mark on climate change, and I'm sure that most people reading this article aren't billionaires. So, that leads us to the bigger things we can do.
Such as... fundraising. Fundraising is when you raise money for a certain cause. It's good for people of all ages, especially kids. It's also a fun activity. You could sell pottery and donate your profits to the environment, or you could set up a huge fundraising event and have more people selling their works to help the environment. The options to fundraising are practically unlimited. Here are a couple ideas on where to start:
What do you like and are good at? We all have strengths. Maybe you're really good at painting and want to sell your artwork.
Who do you want to fundraise with? You could just fundraise by yourself, but more heads together is better. For example, if you're really good at painting but don't quite know how to advertise yourself, a friend of yours might be a great advertiser and could boost up the revenue
Where would you want to set up? Where to fundraise is very important. Would you want to fundraise right in the middle of the desert? No! No one would come your way. However, would you like to fundraise at a local park? Yes! Parks are very good places to raise money. However, you might want to contact your local city administration before you set up a stand, just in case you're not allowed to sell things there.
What do you want to sell, and when? If you are really intent on fundraising, and you fundraise for almost a year, you're going to find yourself having to be inline with the seasons. No one wants lemonade in winter, and no one wants hot chocolate in the summer. Match what you sell to what season it is.
Who are you going to invite? You could invite no one and go to a busy park and hope to get a lot of revenue. However, inviting people and going to a busy park is a better way to go. Not sure who to invite? Just hang up flyers so that people can know what time, date, and place you're going to sell at.
Fundraisers are great ways to start raising money for the environment. With the money, you could plant trees or donate it to an environmental cause. However, make sure you know where your money is going. You don't want to waste your hard work on an environmental cause that doesn't do anything with the money. The environmental defense fund (EDF) is a good place to donate your money. I've donated money here before. Click right here to go to a page about donating to the EDF. I'm not copying and pasting down the link because it was really long and would take up a lot of the article.
Another way to help the environment is to write to authorities about helping the environment, or creating better laws that prevent pollution.
Tell us how your change making is going!
STEP wants to hear about your chance making to know how much action is going on. Tell use what you've been doing! We really want to hear. If you have an account, then we'll give you a badge based on how much change that you've made.
Thank you for reading this article about the environment! And remember, don't just walk away saying that you're do something: actually do something. Remember what Malala Yousafzai said: "If people were silent, then the world wouldn't change."
